Program Outline
Community Science (Home Science) brings about the opportunity for students to get a deeper insight into the workings and management of houses and community. Through this program, candidates are rendered an overview of the various aspects of society and how one can be helpful in providing service to the people through their skills. Students are required to be aware of topics like health, lifestyle, and diet which can further help them in taking up jobs in nutrition and health care as counselors. The course include an in-detail study comprising of topics like interior design, clothing, sewing, furnishing, consumer education, institutional management, child development, food preservation, money management, family relationships and much more.
Since the academic year 2022-23, the course is being offered as per NEP 2020 guidelines. The undergraduate degree course in Home Science (Prog.) is an eight- semester course spread over four academic years. The teaching–learning process is student-centric involving both theory and practical components. It offers flexibility to students by offering them to choose from a variety of subjects and giving them multiple exit options. while ensuring that the student gets a strong foundation in the subject and in-depth knowledge and understanding of maximum aspects of the discipline. The curriculum follows the multi-disciplinary approach as the Discipline Specific Core subjects (DSCs), a student can opt for courses from the syllabus comprising of Discipline Specific Electives (DSEs), Generic Electives (GE), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) and Value Added Courses (VAC). The syllabus is designed to ignite the interest of students and provide them a detailed knowledge of all the five disciplines of Home Science to facilitate their path towards higher studies, career development and employment.

Program Outcomes
Foundational Knowledge in Community Science
Graduates will possess a strong foundation in home science principles, including nutrition, textiles, human development, and family studies.
Research Methodology Understanding
Acquire knowledge of research methods and techniques used in home science research, including qualitative and quantitative approaches.
Literature Review and Critical Analysis Skills
Develop skills in conducting literature reviews and critically analyzing existing research in B. Sc. (Hons.) Community Science to identify gaps and research questions.
Experimental Design and Data Analysis
Gain proficiency in designing experiments, collecting data, and analyzing research findings using statistical methods and software.
Topic Selection and Proposal Writing
Graduates will be capable of selecting research topics, formulating research questions, and writing research proposals in the field of Community Science..
Data Interpretation and Presentation
Acquire skills in interpreting research data and presenting research findings effectively through written reports and oral presentations.
Ethical Conduct in Research
Develop an understanding of ethical principles and guidelines for conducting research in home science, including confidentiality, informed consent, and research integrity.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Cultivate effective collaboration skills through participation in multidisciplinary research projects, reflecting the interconnected nature of home science with fields such as nutrition, psychology, sociology, and public health.
Eligibility
(a) Maharashtra State Candidate:
(i) The Candidate should be an Indian National and having domicile of Maharashtra state and / or born in Maharashtra state.
(ii) Passed HSC or its equivalent examination and the candidate should have appeared in MGMU - CET 2026 should obtain non zero score in MGMU - CET 2026.
OR
(b) All India Candidates:
(i) The Candidate should be an Indian National.
(ii) Passed HSC or its equivalent examination and the candidate should have appeared in MGMU - CET 2026 should obtain non zero score in MGMU - CET 2026.
